Can asthma be irritated while vacuuming or steam cleaning a carpet?

I almost had my asthma under control before I decided to vacuum/steam clean my carpets. If it gets too hot and stuffy in the apartment it does wake me up and I have to sleep with a fan on. Any thoughts would be sincerely appreciated.

Yes, anything that stirs up dust and debris can exacerbate asthma. Next time wear a mask when you do that or have someone else do the work and leave the house.
Keep your fan blades clean, too.

I have allergies and I cannot dump the vacuum canister or get caught vacuuming for more than just a few minutes without feeling my throat closing up and my eyes start to water so I would guess it would stir up asthma symptoms. I also have a problem after I get out of a hot shower and the room doesn’t cool down quickly.

could be from the activity, like exercise induced asthma in addition to vacuuming.. use albuterol in haler pre activity. open windows, or get air conditioning unit. do you use a steroid inhaler daily?

When you’re vacuuming or steam cleaning a carpet, you’re releasing a lot of dust, spores and chemicals into the air.

Naturally, this triggers your asthma. In addition to getting a vacuum that caters to these needs (http://www.vacuum-home.com/hepa-vacuum), if you’re an allergy sufferer you really need a good quality air purifier that will filter the air for radical in-home pollutants
