What will happen if I steam-vacuum a sofa which says Dry-Clean Only?

I really would like to steam-vac my sofa! I don’t believe dry cleaning it would really clean it, and I would really prefer to steam vacuum it using the upholstery detergent that came with the vacuu that I just purchased.

Thats a really good question and maybe I can help you on that. I did exactly the same thing last year to a new white corner settee which was looking tired and a little grubby.

I did some testing first on a the bottoms of a few cushions and left it until it dried out thoroughly and that is what you should do to answer your own question. Until you do that you really won’t know the answer to your question irrespective of the advice given.

Good luck with your project

Unless the covers come off the sofa I do not know how you could possible dry clean it. They may be suggesting you use one of the dry upholstery cleaning agents, and actually they usually do rather well.

If you do steam clean it, you may want to test this on an area that does not show before you do the entire sofa. Do a test spot, allow to dry and see if you are pleased with the results.

how would you get the sofa to the dry cleaners? i bet it would cost a fortune to have them do it.

If the sofa is a relic out of the 60’s, 70’s, and a velvet type material, it may shrink if made wet.
